Kampachi at Pavilion KL was quite the letdown, especially at its price point. I had the Sushi Bento and the Gyu Teriyaki. Neither stood out. You can find better quality sushi and cuts of meat at similar prices elsewhere. The Sushi Bento, priced at MYR91, was just mediocre. They offer a pricier premium version, but if they can’t get the basics right, I’m not tempted to try the higher end options. Opted for the entry-level Gyu Teriyaki, hoping for a solid execution. Ordered medium-rare, aware that Japanese kitchens often serve thin cuts that require finesse. Unfortunately, what arrived was borderline blue, lacking crust or browning, and saddled with sinewy bits that made it practically impossible to chew. It’s the first time in ages I couldn’t finish a piece of meat, regardless of portion. What Worked Service was excellent. Service staff was like. 1:4 ratio, extremely attentive without being intrusive. The miso soup was divine, warming and well-balanced, a genuine highlight of the meal. Final Thoughts At this kind of price, I expected more from Kampachi in Pavilion KL. Stellar service and one great miso soup aren’t enough to offset underdelivered mains. My money would be better spent elsewhere.

Everytime I visit Kuala Lumpur this restaurant is on top of my list! Eating in or take-away, their food is of extremely high quality and super fresh. My favourite is the Soft Shell Crab Maki, cannot leave KL without eating this!
